Director of Development

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School is seeking a Director of Development to join a dynamic leadership team in defining the Arts organization of the 21st Century, prioritizing artistry and education, and furthering the values of quality, access, diversity and collaboration.


The Director of Development will create and implement a strategic fundraising plan, leading a team responsible for raising $2 million for the annual fund and $1 million+ in special campaigns.

Arts Marketing Intern

At nearly 75-years-old, the Orchestra is one of the oldest nonprofits in the State. It is the only Orchestra in the country associated with a full-time Music School. As a result of its long and illustrious history, the nonprofit has a collection of vintage photographs, videos and materials (program books, season brochures, etc.). This summer, the organization will be working on a new website that will combine both aspects of the nonprofit (Orchestra and Music School), and we are looking for an Intern to create a visual project that tells our history and story. The multimedia visual art project will be earmarked for promotional purposes and/or on our new website and/or an exhibit/window display. 

Through cataloging and studying our photographs, the Intern will develop archiving and filing nomenclature, and then create a visual essay that will be used for promotions. In addition, the Intern will be involved in the fast-paced day-to-day operation of the Orchestra and Music School as a member of the marketing/communication department. The Intern will gain experience with ticketing via our box office, assisting with the management of summer concerts, the summer season, and working with the creation and printing of brochures, posters, postcards, press release, etc. In addition, there is an opportunity for the Intern to photograph and/or develop short videos of summer workshops and special events—also for promotional purposes.

The preferred applicant will have a basic understanding of:

  • Photography & videography skills
  • Video editing skills
  • Writing skills
  • Social media experience
  •  Basic web development/website management experience
  • Customer service

Projects include:

  • Curating and cataloging vintage and new photographs and materials to create a visual archive.
  • Creating a visual history of the RI Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School to be used for promotional purposes.
  • Photography and/or videography of the Music School’s summer programs.
  • Behind-the-scenes look at a fully operational Orchestra from ticketing to performance.
This position pays $12/hr, 28 hours a week for 9 weeks. In addition, you will receive a $580 stipend for completing the Arts Intern component of the program.

Student Services Coordinator

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School seeks a full-time Student Services Coordinator to provide excellent customer service in support of our goals for our community music school.

As Student Services Coordinator, your primary responsibility is to steward new students during their first year at the music school by communicating and building relationships with first year students/families and connecting them with other opportunities at the school as they progress. Additionally, you will re-enroll returning students into the new term.

The ideal Student Services Coordinator is dependable, a strong communicator with excellent customer service and organization skills. You will need to become fluent in all programs, familiar with all faculty members and their specializations, and over time, build connections with all students, families and members of the Music School community. You will be joining a dynamic and supportive education team and faculty that is dedicated to creating great musical experiences and providing excellent educational programming. We pride ourselves on doing everything possible to ensure young musicians can take advantage of all our school has to offer.

Accounting Assistant

Non-Exempt, 30 hours per week

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School seeks an experienced accountant as Accounting Assistant. Established in 1944, the non-profit has redefined the arts organization of the 21st Century, combining the finest regional orchestra in the nation with the most comprehensive education and community engagement programs of any professional orchestra, including one of the largest community music schools in the United States.


The Accounting Assistant reports to the Director of Finance and performs regular accounting functions that are key to our success. All clerical accounting and bookkeeping duties follow detailed and established procedures and protocols. Advice and leadership are available from the Director of Finance, the leadership team and colleagues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites

  • Enter invoices and payables into accounting software and investigate discrepancies.
  • Obtain appropriate approval of accounts payable invoices.
  • Enter deposits daily and sort and process daily mail.
  • Create journal entries. Prepare monthly account analysis for various balance sheet accounts.
  • Reconcile Development receipts to ensure appropriate classifications.
  • Maintain and update Inventory Log.
  • Other related projects as requested by the Director of Finance and/or Executive Director.


  • Associate’s Degree or more in Accounting.
  • Minimum two years’ accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, accounting software, ADP’s Workforce Now application, and standard bookkeeping practices for non-profits.


  • Attention to detail, adherence to deadlines and ability to prioritize.
  • Fast learner and team player with excellent verbal communication.
  • Genuine commitment to Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School’s mission to enrich and transform Rhode Island and its region through great performances and music education.
  • Able to keep sensitive financial data confidential.

Work Conditions and Environment

  • Office environment and dress typical for a workplace with frequent customer service interaction.

Teaching Artist (violist or violinist)

The RI Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School seeks a teaching artist (violist or violinist) to join the Victoria’s Dream Project, an afterschool string-music education initiative at the Agnes Little Elementary School in Pawtucket, RI. This position also has room to grow a full studio at our Community Music School in East Providence, R.I.

As a teaching artist within the Victoria’s Dream Project, you would facilitate the music education experience of 45 students who play either violin or viola (broken down into small classes of 8-9 and a small ensemble that is co-led by you and the lead teacher); prepare students for several community outreach events and music performances throughout the year; work closely with other Victoria’s Dream Project staff to develop curriculum; and participate in Professional Development and develop best teaching practice. You would coordinate and collaborate with our Community Partnerships Manager (a licensed Music Educator), our lead teacher, and faculty and staff within Agnes Little Elementary School.

The Victoria’s Dream Project is a comprehensive music program that provides free string instrument instruction (violin and viola) and afterschool care, instruments, community-engagement activities, and a pathway to our music school for the students at the Agnes Little Elementary School, an anchor in the working community of Pawtucket, RI. The RIPO&MS believes the VDP will help to promote community actualization in our music school and at Agnes Little Elementary by expanding opportunities for students and their families through instrumental instruction.

Commitment: ~7-8 hours on site each week from October – June. Teaching artists are paid for prep time, field trips, performances, professional development, and other teaching expectations. Option to also build private studio at the RI Philharmonic Music School.
